Those classmates who walked into Bahrain School carrying the scent of real oud - not cologne, but the deep, woody smell that cost more than most people's rent. In the Gulf, scent wasn't just personal preference. It was statement, status, family heritage.

Years later we realized two things. First - that olfactory richness, the way a single scent could carry so much culture and memory, that was missed. Second - fire still centers the way it did as one was a kid. When the day won't shut off, when the humidity creeps in, when sleep won't come - flame and fragrance do what nothing else can.

Areej isn't trying to replicate your classmates' oud (that's a different business entirely). But it's bringing that same intentionality to scent and fire. Candles that aren't just decoration, but tools for the moments when you need to reset.
